General Medicine Center

Most internal medicine conditions are primarily treated with medication. Today, internal medicine has been further divided into subspecialties based on different organ systems, such as the nervous system, gastrointestinal system, kidneys, cardiovascular system, endocrine system, and respiratory system.

The General Internal Medicine Center provides integrated and holistic care across different body systems, similar to having a personal or family physician from the very beginning of illness. We offer comprehensive care that covers both physical and mental well-being, from head to toe, from treatment to prevention, with the aim of reducing the risk of disease and complications.
Based on this approach, the General Internal Medicine Center at Samitivej Chinatown Hospital is well prepared to provide care and consultation for a wide range of health concerns, including the following services:

Pre -Operative Evaluation

This service is often requested by surgeons from various departments before a patient undergoes major surgery. The evaluation may include a review of current medications, dietary supplements, history of drug allergies, symptoms, blood tests, chest X-ray, and electrocardiogram (ECG), depending on medical necessity.
The results of the physical examination and the patient’s health information are assessed together with the type of surgery to help ensure the best possible surgical outcome and minimize the risk of complications, such as lung disease, heart disease, infection, or other related problems.

Venipuncture Unit

We provide all types of blood collection services performed by experienced nurses. Our IV Nurse Team is also available to provide professional care for patients and their families, helping them feel more relaxed, less anxious, and more confident in the quality of medical care and services provided.

Technologies Used in Patient Care at the General Internal Medicine Center

  1. Vascular stiffness and arterial narrowing assessment    This examination helps patients better understand their vascular health and allows physicians to prescribe medication that is more appropriate for each patient’s condition, particularly in the treatment of high blood pressure. In addition to being offered as a standalone test, this assessment may also be included in health check-up packages and hypertension screening programs.
  2. Rapid blood glucose and HbA1c testing  Blood glucose and HbA1c results can be obtained quickly within approximately 2 and 20 minutes, respectively. This enables more efficient diabetes care, especially when diabetes is found alongside other health conditions, helping to save time and support timely treatment decisions.
  3. Rapid urine microalbumin testing Urine microalbumin testing provides results within approximately 20 minutes and can help detect early signs of kidney problems at a stage when the condition may still be reversible.
  4. 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring  This test involves wearing an automatic blood pressure monitor at home for 24 hours. The device measures and records blood pressure at intervals specified by the physician. The collected data is then reviewed and interpreted by the doctor. The device is small and portable, allowing patients to carry on with their daily activities with minimal disruption. It works automatically and can be adjusted to measure blood pressure at intervals determined by the physician.
