Samitivej Chinatown Liver and Gastrointestinal Institute

Samitivej Hospital has received international accreditation from the Joint Commission International (JCI) and offers specialized expertise in gastrointestinal endoscopy, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer.
The Liver and Digestive Institute at Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital is committed to continuously advancing the quality and standards of medical care to provide patients with comprehensive, specialized, and internationally recognized services.

Samitivej has established a collaboration with Sano Hospital in Japan, a medical institution renowned for its expertise in gastrointestinal endoscopy and the interpretation of gastrointestinal mucosal patterns, particularly those of colorectal polyps using Image-Enhanced Endoscopy (IEE).
The collaboration is led by Professor Dr. Yasushi Sano, Director of Sano Hospital and Director of its Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Center, who is widely recognized in Japan for his expertise in endoscopic diagnosis. He developed a classification system for evaluating mucosal and vascular patterns to help characterize colorectal polyps, an approach that has also gained international recognition.

To further advance the standard of colorectal cancer diagnosis and treatment, Samitivej has introduced two key techniques from Japan.
Narrow Band Imaging (NBI) enhances visualization of mucosal and vascular patterns during endoscopy, helping physicians identify abnormalities in colorectal polyps, including subtle or flat lesions that may have malignant potential. This allows for more accurate and timely assessment compared with conventional endoscopic imaging.

Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) is an advanced minimally invasive endoscopic technique used to remove large or complex lesions in a single piece without the need for open abdominal surgery. It can be used in selected patients with early-stage colorectal and gastric cancers.

In addition, The Liver and Digestive Institute is one of the few private hospitals in Thailand capable of performing liver transplantation for patients with advanced liver disease. The program has reported a liver transplant success rate of up to 90%, helping many patients return to their daily lives with an improved quality of life.

The Liver and Digestive Institute is fully equipped with advanced technologies for comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal and liver conditions. Our services are designed to provide timely, accurate, and reliable diagnosis and care.

The institute offers expertise in modern diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, including capsule endoscopy, a minimally invasive method used to examine the gastrointestinal tract with greater comfort for patients and minimal disruption to daily activities.

We also provide comprehensive care for a wide range of conditions, including infections, alcohol-related liver disease, cirrhosis, fatty liver disease, pancreatitis, gallstones, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, and other gastrointestinal and liver disorders.

Our multidisciplinary team of experienced specialists, with both local and international expertise, utilizes advanced medical innovations and technologies to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered care.

The Liver and Digestive Institute is located on the 2nd floor of Samitivej Chinatown Hospital.

The Liver and Digestive Institute provides care for both Thai and international patients, with a particularly strong focus on Japanese patients, who represent one of Samitivej’s largest international patient groups.

Each year, Samitivej serves approximately 120,000 Japanese patients, averaging around 400 patients per day. This extensive experience has helped establish Samitivej as one of the leading private hospitals outside Japan in caring for Japanese patients.

Samitivej established a dedicated medical center for Japanese patients in October 2010, offering support from Japanese interpreters and medical staff who are able to communicate in Japanese. Patients receive treatment and recovery support in a caring and comfortable environment, complemented by facilities designed to enhance their overall experience during their hospital stay.

Recognizing that attentive and personalized care plays an important role in recovery, Samitivej places strong emphasis on continuity of care. Dedicated nursing support is provided to help ensure that each patient receives close attention throughout their treatment journey.

Our nursing team takes the time to understand each patient’s individual condition and needs, while recognizing the importance of compassionate, detailed, and culturally sensitive care.
